Northumberland Hair and Beauty Salon Providing Revolutionary Hair Removal Treatment

A Hair and Beauty Salon based in Northumberland is leading the way when it comes to Permanent hair removal treatment. Aspen Hair and Beauty, based in Stannington near Morpeth, provides Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Hair Removal Treatment which is an effective process, suitable for both men and women.

lyntonfinal.jpg

At Aspen we only work with British manufactured medical grade systems which  can be used on virtually any part of the body and typically reduce levels of hair growth permanently  by up to 90%. This treatment works as the intense pulse light penetrates the skin and is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair. With each flash of the bulb, the hair inside each follicle is heated for just a millisecond and the follicle is therefore destroyed in the process.

Owner of Aspen Hair and Beauty, Lorna Waddell said:

“IPL  hair removal offers a convenient pain free alternative to regular waxing and shaving .Following a course of treatments you will have not only hair free but smooth silky skin .”

aspen1.jpg

IPL Hair Removal Treatment is suitable for the vast majority of people and works to particularly good effect on people who have a combination of light skin and dark hair. The reason for darker hair responding better to this treatment is because it contains higher levels of melanin. Aspen Hair and Beauty uses IPL to remove hair on many parts of the body including; lip, chin, underarms, back, chest, legs. They also offer standard and extended bikini treatments.

aspen2.jpg

Lorna added: “This will be one of the best investments in “you” that you can make

If you are concerned about this treatment being painful then there’s not an awful lot to worry about as IPL has been described as ‘relatively painless’ with discomfort considered ‘only moderate’ which may involve a subtle flicking sensation.

aspen3.jpg

IPL only works on hair that is in the process of growing and therefore multiple treatments are needed for it to be effective. Aspen Hair and Beauty offers a discounted pricing scheme for clients wishing to book the recommended number of treatments.

aspen4.jpg

Lorna said, “A typical course of treatments is between 8 and 12. The number of treatments depends on the area and type of hair growth being treated.

Since introducing revolutionary IPL, many clients have considered it a safer, less painful, and more affordable alternative to waxing, shaving, and messy hair removal creams.

Lorna said, “There really is nothing to lose and everything to gain, as at Aspen, we offer free consultation and Patch test, where we can answer all your questions and together decide whether IPL/LASER is right for you. Go on—invest in yourself—you’ll wish you’d started treatment years ago!”

The Difference between Conditioners and Treatments

Conditioners are available in many different forms but the most common is creme.

A conditioner will improve the combability and manageability of the hair until the next shampoo where its benefits will be removed until the next application-it works on the surface of the hair only.

Thee are a plethora of types on the market each doing a similar temporary job on the hair -when choosing always go for the one that suits your hair type and not a generic -FOR ALL HAIR TYPES

A treatment will penetrate the cuticle (outside layer of the hair ) and work into the cortex ( mid layer of the hair -where the colour and strength of the hair is held ) -with  course of treatments the hair condition ,moisture and protein content of the hair can be vastly improved .

Treatment

Milkshake Mousse

Is a mousse that is applied to towel dried damp hair before blow drying- therefore it stays on the hair -easy to apply, smells delicious and builds up strngth whilst on the hair till the following shampoo

Olaplex - this product will reconnect the di sulphide bonds in the hair ( think of your individual hair as a ladder structure - when the hairs protein and moisture stores are depleted it is like having a few broken rungs on the ladder ,therefore it is no longer a strong stable structure ( this is when the hair will feel and look dull and lifeless and will possibly knot together enabling tangles ad possible breakage .

Olaplaex will help to fix the broken bonds from within the hair at molecular level -youll be able to see and fell a difference even after one treatment -though a course is advised.

Olaplex is also freee from artificial parabens ( preservatives ) and silicones and therefore does not artificially and temporarily coat the hair -but makes a permanent positive change which is built on treatment after treatment .

olaplaex fundamentally changes the internal hair structure -the more applications of Olaplex the greater effect will be felt and seen .

Autumnal and Winter Shades

Coppers, Mahoganies, Reds, Ochres, Russet, Golds, and burgundies all rich, sumptuous colours to add warmth, depth, and varying degrees of drama! To warm up the cold, dreary winter months.

Whether you add individual slices, weaves, or go full head colour, autumnal mewl hues can add depth, definition, and interest to your style with as much or as little maintenance as your lifestyle and budget allow.

An all-over change of colour can look fabulous and change not only the way you look but also the way you feel—though this is probably the highest maintenance option, with regrowth needing to be addressed every 4-6 weeks, depending on your personal hair growth speed.

This will totally change your hair's natural base colour, and at Aspen, we will use our professional skills and experience to advise you on the correct hair colour to work with your skin tone.

To add tone only, you could opt for a semi-permanent colour (which is not mixed with peroxide and therefore will eventually shampoo out ) or a quasi-permanent colour (which is mixed with peroxide but left to develop for half the time a permanent colour would be). This colour will fade but not completely wash out of your hair in 15-22 shampoos.

The vibrancy of the end colour on both latter colours will depend on the starting base colour of your natural hair.

There are a myriad of new colours formulated to freshen up your hair colour for the autumn/winter months

*Gingerbread caramel

*Caramel Mocha

*Fiery Copper

*Red Velvet

*Coral Copper

These are just a few to tempt, fire your imagination, and whet your appetite. At Aspen, we use only the best quality L'Oréal and Wella colouring products and can mix colours to suit your requirements.

There are lots of gorgeous new colour trends to take advantage of this year, with tone and colour to inspire, and this season is all about low maintenance colours that will be easy to keep up with

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Tattoos have been a form of self-expression for centuries. Still, as personal tastes change or life circumstances evolve, many individuals seek ways to remove or modify their inked artwork. One of the most popular and effective methods for tattoo removal is laser tattoo removal. This article will delve into the fascinating world of laser tattoo removal, exploring the science behind it, the technology involved, the procedure, and potential risks and benefits.

The Science Behind Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal targets specific chromophores (colour molecules) within the skin without damaging surrounding tissues. The primary chromophore in tattoo ink is melanin, the pigment responsible for skin and hair colour. Different wavelengths of light are used to target specific colours of tattoo ink, breaking them down into smaller particles that the body can naturally eliminate.

tattoo3.jpg

The Technology Involved

The lasers used in tattoo removal emit high-intensity light in short pulses. Different types of lasers are employed to target various ink colours, with each laser emitting a specific wavelength that corresponds to the absorption spectrum of the targeted pigment. Common lasers used in tattoo removal include Zeolight Nd:YAG, which is what we use at Aspen.

The Procedure

Consultation: Before undergoing laser tattoo removal, individuals typically have a consultation with a trained professional to assess the tattoo's size, colour, location, and the individual's skin type. This information helps determine the appropriate laser and treatment plan.

Protective Measures: To protect the patient's eyes from the intense laser light, protective goggles are worn during the procedure. The tattoo area is also cleansed.

Laser Application: The laser is then directed at the tattooed area, delivering short bursts of energy. The energy is absorbed by the tattoo pigments, causing them to heat up and break into smaller fragments.

tattoo5.jpg

 Benefits of Laser Tattoo Removal

Precision: Laser tattoo removal offers precise targeting of specific ink colours, minimizing damage to the surrounding skin.

Versatility: Different types of lasers can be used to treat a wide range of tattoo colours, making this method suitable for various tattoos.

Minimal Scarring: When performed by a skilled professional, laser tattoo removal tends to result in minimal scarring compared to other removal methods.

Laser tattoo removal has revolutionised the process of undoing permanent ink, offering a safe and effective method for those looking to erase or modify their tattoos. Advances in technology continue to improve the precision and efficiency of this procedure, making it a popular choice for individuals seeking a fresh start or a new canvas for self-expression. If considering laser tattoo removal, it's crucial to consult with a qualified professional to discuss expectations, potential risks, and the most suitable treatment plan for your unique tattoo.

How Carbon Facials work.

1.After cleansing a layer of medical grade carbon cream is thinly applied to the facial area, which is absorbed by the pores.

ACNE TREATMENT IPL FACIAL

Acne is caused by the skins pores becoming enlarged and allowing bacteria to enter the pores and obstruct the sebaceous glands.

The bacteria then multiplies deep in the follicle resulting in unsightly, inflamed raised lumps, which sometimes are filled with bacteria and pustules - which are often sore, red and raised.

acne1.jpg

IPL combined with radio frequency can help to kill off bacteria on the skin whilst restricting oil production and eliminating acne spots.

IPL will also stimulate collagen production preventing further scar formation leading to a smoother, clearer, more even skin tone.

During consultation a patch test is carried out so that the correct frequency for the individual is determined and test for negative reactions.

Once it has been determined that there are no negative reactions treatment can be commenced 24 hours after the consultation .

The area to be treated is thoroughly cleansed to remove all traces of make-up , oils and dirt.

A cleansing masque is then applied and left for 7-10 mins before being removed using a sterilised warm damp sponge .

acne2.jpg

A thick layer of ultrasound gel is applied to the area to be treated which will help to cool down the skins surface and aid in the smooth movement of the applicator head.

The applicator is pulsed at regular 2 second intervals over the area.

It can feel like a flicking sensation and the light is very bright therefore the client’s and operator’s eyes are covered with protective eyewear.

Once the area has been covered the gel is removed and a light moisturiser applied to the area.

The client is advised to drink plenty of water to help to flush out any toxins.

The skin immediately after treatment may appear slightly red though this will subside within a few hours.

The treatment will result in the skin purging all of the impurities contained within in 3-4 days.

It is not advisable for the client to wear make up immediately after treatment for the following 24 hours as a minimum.

For the best results for a clearer and smoother complexion, a course of treatments spaced at one every 2-3  weeks is required.

Well groomed eyebrows act to frame the eyes and highlight your best features.

If correctly shaped a correct eyebrow shape can have the dramatic effect of a mini eye lift.

at Aspen Beauty, factors such as arch, length, thickness and face shape are taken into account when formulating the correct eyebrow shape for each individual.

How to formulate the correct eyebrow

shape

We  start by marking out the starting point ,arch, and end point with a white removable pencil.

1.Take a vertical line from the edge of the nose extending upwards - this will determine where the eyebrow should naturally start.

02.jpeg

2.Arch of the brow -take a diagonal line form the edge of the nose passing through the pupil.

03.jpeg

3.End of brow-take a diagonal line from the edge of the nose extended upwards passing through the corner of the eye.

When shaping the eyebrows, remember that 99% of all face shapes are not symmetrical, therefore, the brows will look similar but never appear the same.

Apply the eyebrow gel -this will keep all hairs flat and groom them in the correct direction.

If required, comb the hairs above and below the eyebrow line and trim them, this will give a better definition.

Remove all the unwanted stray hairs manually with tweezers or, as in this case, with warm wax.

Apply the wax in small amounts with a small applicator toward hair growth.

Apply a paper or muslin waxing strip and press evenly over the top

stretch the skin and pull off the strip cleanly and toward the hair growth.

Fill the eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil using fine brush strokes to promote a sympathetic and natural look.

Finally, if required, use a highlighter or light concealer for extra definition.

Supporting Little Princess Trust -Donating hair in aid of Cancer

Cancer doesn't look at age, race, gender or sexual orientation - it does not discriminate.

A natural hair wig can make such a difference to someone who has lost their hair during cancer treatment helping them to regain their self-esteem and confidence.

At Aspen Hair and Beauty, we support the Little Princess Trust.

When Gaynor came in for her first ever visit to Aspen Hair and Beauty, she arrived with a mane of healthy long natural hair. Ideal to use in wig making. It was during consultation with Lorna that Gaynor decided that she wanted a complete restyle and wanted to take her hair from long to shoulder length.

We discussed during the consultation that it would be such a waste to let the hair simply end up on the salon floor and to be swept into a bin and simply end up on a landfill site!

Between us and we decided on a style and then Lorna secured the hair in a ponytail slightly below the length that the finished style would be - checking before cutting that Gaynor was comfortable at what would be her new style length.

IMG_0433.JPG

The ponytail could then be sent to Little Princess Trust and used to make more wigs and hairpieces.

Thank you, Gaynor, for your very generous and selfless donation. As an added bonus, Gaynor completely suited her new look!

Wedding Day Makeup Tips

Eyes

Use light layers of mascara and ideally make it waterproof - if you know you cant hold back the tears on this emotionally charged day then go for an invisible gel either to coat your lashes or to act as a top coat to your coloured mascara -this will make your lashes resistant to tears and also can act as an eyebrow gel to keep any strays in place .

Primer

Primers will smooth, flatter and conceal whilst often reducing the appearance of enlarged pores, helping to provide a smooth surface and evening out skin tone providing a smooth base for your foundation to adhere too and ensuring long-lasting results.

Primers are available in creme, gel and powder form. They will also save you money by using a primer means you will need to use less foundation.

Apply your primer using your fingertips - this will also help to get the blood flowing underneath the surface of the skin and help to promote a healthy glow.

Concealer (for blemishes)

To conceal blemishes use your fingertips to apply the concealer onto clean, moisturised skin -gently dotting the concealer onto the area you wish to target.

When concealing a blemish which may be raised, use a cotton bud and apply the concealer in an “X” direction. This will lightly and effectively coat the blemish without the risk of unsightly build up.

Gently press the concealer over the blemish with your fingertip using a rocking motion.

Allow the concealer few moments to “set”  and blot the face with a tissue to remove any excess oil before applying foundation.

When the skin's surface is uneven or blotchy -DO NOT use a foundation brush but rather opt for a stipple brush which will give good coverage and an airbrushed finish.

Apply foundation in a round stippling motion -doing this will ensure that you will get even coverage without removing the concealer.

Concealer (for dark circles)

Using a concealer with a yellow/orange undertone will neutralise the purple hue visibly present and commonly termed dark circles.

Gently dot a warm-toned concealer over where the dark circles present themselves and with a soft concealer bash start to blend.

if eyeballs are prevalent at this stage, using a very light concealer you can draw a line at the eyeball crease and using your ring finger ( this finger presents the least pressure ) gently blend this in too.

Finally using a makeup sponge and a light reflecting concealer cover the whole area -allow to set and apply foundation.

Foundation

There are three types of foundation coverage:

Sheer - a light veil of coverage
Medium - to cover redness or a few blemishes
Full - a full opaque coverage

When applying foundation, start from the centre of your face and work outwards. This will prevent harsh lies and a build-up of colour which would be visible on the parameter of your face.

Very gently blend from the face to the neck with a light coverage so as not to get a demarkation mark.

Powder

Powder will help to “fix” the foundation in place and therefore help the effects last longer.-Apply with a large brush in an upward and then downward light circular movement.

Blusher

Used on the “apple” of the cheeks - suck the cheeks in and apply with several very light brush strokes in circular movements - building up the colour rather than applying in one “harsh” stroke.

Highlighter

Used above blusher to reflect light and highlight -bringing into focus the cheekbones.

Contourer

To add depth and shade to the overall look and enhance facial structure - enhancing natural shadows and slimming down the face.

Fixing Mist

This will hold your make up in place all day having the added bonus of restoring radiance and smoothing away fine lines -you can also keep a mini version in your bag to use through the day to keep refresh and revive your make up and add a duet hue.

Blotting Sheets

If you are lucky enough for beautiful sunshine weather on the big day, don't forget to add a little sachet of makeup blotting papers.

These can be applied over the top of already applied makeup and will remove any shine caused by the heat in the sun and 'melting' makeup.

Makeup Mistakes

Don’t try to remove any makeup mistakes with tissue but rather use a cotton bud dipped in a little cleanser and just target the mishap area. This will mean fewer repairs to the rest of your make up .

Looking forward to the Summer

Personally, summer is my favourite time of the year, hearing the birds sing and observing the beautiful countryside all around us - its time to cast off the layers of cover-up clothing and look after skin and hair.

At Aspen Hair and Beauty were always on hand to help you to achieve the best version of you possible and are always happy to give advice on Haircare and Beauty treatments.

This post is going to focus on skin Acne achieving maximum radiance.

Allegedly our skincare industry is set to be worth £1.23 Billion by 2020!

85% of teenagers at some point will suffer from acne of a varying degree but according to doctors and dermatologists mature acne is on the rise - largely due it would seem to work-related stress, poor diets and air conditioning.

So…whats the best course of action?

A cleanse, Tone and Moisturise Regime

Adopt a CTM (Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise) regime morning and night.

What's the function of each of these products?

Cleansers - Remove dirt, excess oil, makeup and other debris such as bacteria pollutants and old skin cells.

Toners - A good toner will remove any residue of oil, dirt or debris left behind by the cleanser hydrating and soothing the skin whilst closing the pores.

Moisturisers - following cleanse and tone, a moisturiser is applied to hydrate the skin and prevent any further moisture being lost. It will also act as a good base -evening out skin texture before applying makeup ensuring that your make up lasts longer.

Holidays and festivals, this is the time that we are most likely to go for a fresh, natural look  and lighten up on our make up regimes and go for a softer, more natural look and (with the protection of a spa of course) hopefully soak up some of those lovely warm summer or holiday rays and of course benefit from some vitamin D too.

However, advance with care and you will look radiant, healthy and glowing using a high SPF face cream which will both protect your skin from sun damage and premature ageing.

Choose a soap-free cleanser and use morning and night to remove makeup, excess  skins oils and general skin day to day debris - these cleansers are non-irritating and non-comedogenic (don't block pores).

A step by step guide to a salon finish blo-dry

Our hair is the Crown we never take off and one of the most valuable accessories.

Makeup is great, but if your hair is not right, even if you have the best makeup application - without your hair being right, you just won't feel as good as you could.

We all want what we don't have - people with naturally curly hair want straight and vice versa. It's about making the best of what you have -here is a step by step approach to achieving salon finish hair.

Hair Preparation

  1. Massage the scalp in the shower for 5 mins -this really pays dividends as it will stimulate the scalp to produce more sebum ( the hair and skins natural moisturiser )

  2. Towel dry -squeezing the hair through the towel to remove the excess moisture ( do not rub) as this will cause breakage, knotting and tangles)

  3. Never use a brush to initially take the tangles out of the hair after shampooing - ALWAYS use a wide-toothed comb to remove tangles - ( a brush may put undue pressure on the wet hair and cause breakage )

  4. After towel drying the hair -blast the hair up to 75% dry with a hairdryer on medium heat BEFORE applying product .-you will use less product this way and it will be more effective -saving you not only time but money too !!!

  5. Section your hair into four even sections -two at the front -two at the back, this may seem time-consuming but will actually save you time !!and give a much better, professional result.

  6. Choose whichever brush for the effect that you wish to achieve

Types of Brushes

Paddle - (flat) brush for medium to long hair for a straight smooth effect.
Round brush - the smaller the barrel the more curl you will achieve.
Small barrels - short hair, curl effect
Medium barrels - mid-length hair -soft curl/bend
Large barrels - long hair - slight bend but mainly smooth finish with volume

Drying

Take the hair in 1” sections and work from nape to crown. Then, temple either side to crown till all of the hair is dry. Work in the direction that you want the finished result to be.

When the drying process is complete if necessary use tongs or straighteners depending on the effect you wish to achieve. Again, do this in sections so that they work effectively. Too large a section and the heat will not penetrate leaving an unsatisfactory result and meaning you have to go over the section again - unnecessarily overheating the hair which could lead to damage.

Voila! Salon finish hair styling.

Hair Colouring Treatment Terminology Explained

Balayage

The process of painting on highlights of blocks of colour strategically onto the hair directly, and without using foils. With this technique, the coloured sections will be placed artfully around the head developing the look of naturally sun-kissed strands.

Foiling

Using actual aluminium sheets cut to size for highlighting ( lifting and making the hair lighter ) or low lighting (adding colour and /or tone to the hair.

Colour Correction

Careful placement of colour mixed with additional (missing) tones will have to be added to correct the overall colour.

Bleach Shampoo

This process can be carried out periodically to remove colour build up or a toner.

Toner

Applied after the colour, this treatment leaves the hair glossy and shiny and will add warm tones to the base colour.

Semi-Permanent Colour

Used to add tone and depth to the hair, these products WILL NOT lift or lighten the hair as there is no peroxide added. They usually last 6-8 shampoos.

Quasi Permanent

Often misleading sold to the general public as semi-permanent colours -the only difference between these colourants and permanent colours is the strength of peroxide used and the length of developing time which is approx 20-25 mins whereas a permanent colour is 35-45 minutes. They are lovely colours but rather that grow out as would a permanent colour these colours will fade leaving a less rigid line of regrowth.

Partial Highlights

With partial highlights, colour is applied to the hairline ( parting ) and crown of the head. This method is also known as express highlights and can be all that is needed to lift and refresh in-between full highlight treatments.

Why choose a salon colour to home colouring?

The salon quality product helps to protect hair against breakage during the colouring process, achieving a rich, polished shade and takes all the hassle out of trying to reach all root areas in order to achieve a flawless natural result.

The result - a shinier, stronger and smoother result with an extra long - lasting shine.

So, whether you want to have a whole new look or just take care of those ever advancing greys at Aspen Hair and Beauty we can build a bespoke colouring treatment especially for you meeting your expectations and requirements.
